One of the first aftermarket add-ons to the automotive engine was the introduction of performance exhaust.
When the time comes to upgrade your corvette,weather it be a C4(84/96),C5(97/04),or even your new C6(05/2010)
theres no doubt the best bang for the buck is a new performance exhaust system.
As complicated as many exhaust companys try to make it sound the theory behind performance exhaust is very simple and can be summed up in two words,
minimise restrictions.
It is a well documented fact of engine building that the more air and fuel you put into the engine the more power you get out.
With that in mind the increased volume of exhaust gas in the combustion chamber must find an efficient way out.
There are 3 major restrictions to every factory exhaust system:
The first is the standard exhaust manifold.
Designed for cost and mass production they are not geared toward performance.
There are two options to replace these heavy and flow restrictive engine parts.
Either Short Tube or Long Tube Headers.
Short tube headers closly resemble factory exhaust manifolds by length and in most cases can directly be instaled in place of factory exhaust manifolds.
Shorty headers are designed to flow much better than factory manifolds and are alot lighter as well.
Though not as desirable as long tube headers they are a great budget minded alternitive.
Long tube headers are not a direct replacement as the overall length is longer than factory manifolds.
To compinsate for this an intermediate section is needed.
Although a little more expensive choice there is no better way to raise torque and horsepower as well as throttle response through an exhaust system.
Long tube headers are by far the place to start your performance exhaust system.
The second major restriction is the cataletic converter.
Designed purely for emmisions there is no wonder they do not respond well in the world of performance.
Available replacement sections offered range from straight open exhaust piping to new high flow cataletic converter sections.
Some manufactures include an X-Pipe or crossover section in this area yet other manufactures opt to move the X-Pipe further back in the exhaust system.
X-Pipes first developed in NASCAR are used to move exhaust from one side of the system to the other from the engine to the tailpipe.
Not only does this change the sound of the exhaust but it is also known to aid in performance.
The third major restriction is the muffler.
Mufflers were an emmision concern before the invention of cataletic converters and have never been on the performance most wanted list.
Probably the most common add on in the marketplace it is unfortunate many do not perform or sound as good as we are led to believe.
The biggest complaint about mufflers is the constant drone at cruising speeds.
In our experiance Billy Boat Mufflers are the best in the industry in this area as well as overall fit and finish.

Billy Boat Performance Exhaust For Your C6 Corvette
Billy Boat Performance Exhaust long tube header systems are designed specifically for the C6 Corvette. The header design incorporates the correct firing sequence which pairs exhaust ports together for more efficient exhaust scavenging.
Dyno testing has shown an increase of horsepower and torque throughout the entire RPM range.
This is a true bolt-on header, complete with hardware and gaskets, dedicated to the C6 Corvette.
The new 1.75" tube flows seamlessly to a 3", 4-into-1 collector.
Billy Boat Performance Exhaust also makes a variety of x-pipes for the c6 Corvette. The x-pipe section evens the exhaust pulses with a synchronized crossover in the center section
available with Resonators or Standard for unrestricted flow resulting in a deeper, smoother tone.
Total Performance begins with Route 66 Mufflers, or the most aggressive performance exhaust to be released, the Bullet.
The Route 66 system has a very distinctive muscle car idle note that emits a true touring performance sound on the highway
good for an additional 11 rear wheel horsepower on your C6. Options for the Route 66 include an x-pipe (FCOR-0430) or the center muffler (FCOR-0440). It is recommended that customers with a C6 automatic or paddle shift transmission use the Route 66 Evolution system, which is a combination of the Route 66 rear section and the FCOR-0440 center muffler.
The Bullet an aggressive performance exhaust system, and has quickly become the industry standard for a deep, aggressive muscle car sound. Your C6 can see performance gains of up to 18 rear wheel horse power and 17 foot pounds of torque from the Bullet. If you want to tone your Bullet down just a little bit, a great options is the PRT x-pipe section with resonators. This will help to smooth out the exhaust pulses and take the edge off the Bullet while maintaining that aggressive tone.
Fusion C6/C6 Z06
Billy Boat has combined the best of the Bullet exhaust with the best technology from the factory to give you the Z06 Fusion System for your Corvette. The NEW Z06 exhaust is 3" from the factory, yet it necks down to 2.5" as it enters the mufflers, reducing exhaust flow and performance. The Billy Boat Bullet System is an entirely 3 inch, T-304 stainless steel system, using precision mandrel bends for uninterrupted flow and performance. The system uses a rear similar to a 3" version of the B&B Bullet system, using an additional small resonated muffler at the back of the system.The muffler tips are double walled, 4" round or 4.5" oval.
The Fusion is a bi-modal exhaust system, meaning it has two passages, or modes, that the exhaust can travel through the muffler.
Each of the mufflers has two outlets, with one side having a butterfly type valve which allows the exhaust flow to be shut off, One side of the muffler is the “quiet” side, and one side is the “loud” side. Through our development we have made the “loud” side of the muffler “louder”, which results in a tone similar to the famous Bullet system.In the closed position the tone would be slightly louder than the standard Route 66 system.The butterfly is controlled by a vacuum valve, On the Z06 and the 2008 C6 with the NPP option, this valve is controlled by the ECU. The valve opens based on RPM and throttle position. The problem is the factory exhaust is very quiet, even with the valve open. Our expertise here at B&B is getting the “tone” right for your Corvette, and we think we nailed this one. Even in the closed position, the tone is deeper, louder, and more aggressive. Open the valves, the overall volume and tone increases to the point heads will turn when you drive up.
Not everybody has a Z06 or the 2008 with NPP, right?
Billy Boat Performance Exhaust has spent months developing a stand-alone kit which allows any C6 to take advantage of the bi-modal system. The kit come complete with all the wiring, mild-to-wild switch, vacuum line, vacuum accumulator, and vacuum switch needed for installation. We have used the engine as the vacuum source (it is the same port the factory uses for the NPP) and the installation is simple and straight forward.
On the Z06 the system is 3”, while on the C6 it is 2 ½”. We do have an x-pipe available for both systems, and the standard C6 can be ordered in the 3” diameter to make a complete 3” system.
Each part of the system will fit to a stock H-pipe or the stock headers. The parts can be mixed and matched (rear exhaust, x-pipe, and long tube headers) For best performance it is recommended to use the long tube headers, the 3” x-pipe, and the 3” Fusion. Billy Boat has combined the best of the Bullet exhaust with the best new technology to give you the Fusion System for your Corvette. The muffler tips are double walled, 4" round or 4.5" oval.
